A little something about D'Mor...

Ask any fashionista and they will tell you that great accessories
really pull together an outfit to complete the entire look. Take a pair of ripped
jeans, a nice shirt or sweater and complement it with a fabulous handbag,
footwear, jewelry and a pair of shades and you’re ready to hit the town in style.
Being born and raised in the Bronx of New York City, fashion was instilled in
me from birth. It’s a part of my DNA, a part of my culture. Even as a child I was
dressed fabulous... Shoes from Buster Brown, a rabbit fur coat and sterling silver
bangles. You couldn’t tell me I wasn’t fabulous as a child and yet my real fur wearing days are a fading memory. Even though, my innate style was inherited from my parents who are from a time period where women put on a dress and pearls just to sit around the house, and men wore suits or dress slacks, dress shoes and a fedora just to go buy a loft of bread. so style was an important part of my upbringing.
As a teen, my sister taught me how to sew, but after a while, I knew sewing garments wasn’t for me. Countless hours of looking for the right fabric, cutting material on the bias, using the correct thread… Blah! This wasn’t for me! Years later, my sister went into business designing and sewing garments, and I worked with her a short while, but my only interest was “tweaking" the designs to make them more fabulous. Eventually, I stopped sewing, but my desire to create remained strong and it led me to start dabbling in jewelry creation. I didn't attend any craft classes or go to design school, I just sat down and started drawing a design I thought would look good, and started to create it.
The very first necklace I created was purchased before it was finished. My mother’s friend admired it and asked if I would be selling it, and I said yes. She said, “Good, I’ll be back for it”. I stuttered as I explained I didn’t know when I was going to finish it or how much to charge for it, but she looked at me and said, “That’s alright, you’ll have all of that worked out by the time I get back”. Wow! Here I was on vacation and starting a business at that moment. I ended up having a paying customer and a project manager, I mean a mother who hung over my shoulder to make sure I was getting the necklace finished before her friend returned. Mom then switched hats to become my accountant, to make sure I priced the item fairly for both me and her friend. Within minutes, I was in business and several years later, D’Mor Couture emerged to offer unique and limited repeats on hand-crafted accessories for men and women.
To my family and friends, I thank you so much for the assistance or just words of encouragement. I know it has taken me a long time to get to this point, and I’m still growing, learning and expanding, but I don’t believe in limitations, so thank you all for lifting me, so I can soar!
